How to find your passion in life
If you are anything like me, you have multiple “likes”, such as yoga, cooking, art, reading, and shopping like a pro.
But maybe you don’t feel like you have a passion or not sure how to find your passion.
You could argue that your world revolves around your children – taking them to school, soccer, swim practice and violin lessons. But no one is arguing your dedication to your child(ren)!
Studies have shown that being a parent with outside interests besides their children will actually benefit both the children and parents! (Pediatrics, 2018)
Taking care of ourselves helps us take care of our children.
Finding what we are passionate about and allowing ourselves the permission to enjoy doing these things will not only help you as an individual but will help you be a better mother and partner.

How to Find Your Passion and Purpose in Life
1. Write down the things you enjoy
While you could probably list out both likes and an endless list of dislikes (who actually likes doing dishes and laundry?!) – focus on what makes you happy. Don’t limit yourself to time, money or resources.
If you could do anything… what would it be?
What did you do before you had kids?
What did you enjoy when you were a child?
Did you do art classes? Music lessons?
Maybe you were the jump rope queen.
Are there things that you enjoy doing when (if) you have free time now?
Maybe it’s the 2 minutes of reading before the kids come into your room in the morning, searching online for that outfit for picture day, baking for the PTA bake sale or coordinating your daughter’s Girl Scout meeting.
What do you enjoy doing with your family?
Do you love game night? Maybe you are the team parent for your child’s sports team. Are you the go-to mom for finding all the steals and deals at your local Target?
Don’t feel pressured to finish this list in one sitting. Think about it during the drive to school, or while you’re cooking dinner.
2. Schedule time
Take a look at your list. Is there anything on there that could take 30 minutes or less? We may say we don’t have time, but if there is something that we want to do, we are able to find the time.
In a study that both Good Housekeeping and the NY Post quoted, parents get an average of 32 minutes of free time. That’s enough time to start working out each day, reading 15-30 pages in a book, watching a short television program, or cooking an easy meal.
Scheduling time with your significant other, friends and ourselves makes us accountable and more likely to follow through with completing an activity.
If you are open to trying new things, like a popular restaurant, paint night with wine or dance classes – schedule the time.
We don’t have to save the world, but allowing ourselves to explore what we like and truly enjoy is a start.
3. Start simple
Take 5 minutes to lay on the floor with one hand on your heart and the other on your stomach. Focus on your breathing. Self-care will lead to helping you find yourself.
According to an article on Parents.com, starting with 5 minutes and building on it can help. It will help you find the time that you actually need for yourself and give you room to explore what you enjoy doing again.
Taking care of yourself, finding your passion(s), doing things you enjoy will make you happier. It will make you a better parent and help your children to thrive and find their passions as well. You’ll find that once you start doing something you actually enjoy, it won’t be as difficult to find time to do it.

People that are passionate about what they love to do are able to make money. First, you need to find a hobby you are passionate about.
It can be drawing, graphic designing, coaching, writing or online tutoring. There are careers for those that love working with words or numbers too – which is proofreading and bookkeeping.
