I’ve been researching work-from-home jobs for moms since 2018 and I have seen two jobs that stand out from the crowd.
One because they pay well, and secondly, they do not require you to have a professional degree or experience to take on clients.
I have also had the opportunity to interview stay-at-home moms who have build a solid career in these fields. I have left links to the interview with these moms at the end of this post. These interviews help you understand a day in your work life at home. This also gives you an opportunity to understand the line of work.
You can begin both without experience and earn to aim between $40,000-$60,000 a year.
Here’s a hint, one job is for those good with numbers and the other is for grammar nerds!

1. Virtual Proofreader
This is a side hustle for those good with correcting grammatical errors.
This could mean correcting text on social media, emails, ebooks, novels, blogs, cookbooks or even restaurant menus!
Writers make excellent proofreaders. Writers are naturally aware of sentence structure and spelling errors – which is the job of a proofreader in a nutshell.
If you are someone that is disappointed with punctuation mistakes or gets upset when you see a misspelt word, this might just be the job for you.
As a proofreader, you are the last pair of eyes before the final draft is published – the last piece of the puzzle.
How much can you earn?
Proofreaders can choose to be paid per word, or by an hourly rate.
You can increase the rate of pay based on the complexity of the work or if they require a faster turn-around.
According to these statistics by Indeed, the average rate per hour of a proofreader is $22. According to Salary.com a proofreaders income can go up to $66k a year.
How to find work?
There are various online companies that offer proofreading jobs on a temporary or permanent basis. Here are some online sites where you can find regular job openings.
Start a website
Another way to find clients is to create a small website for your proofreading business. Add a hiring page to it, and use this to promote it on social media and to potential clients.
Now, if you are wondering – why start a website? Here is your answer.
Imagine if someone approached you to proofread their work, you will have to email them with details. Probably attach a pdf file to explain the services you offer, any customised rate packages you can provide and information on the turn-around time.
Instead of sending emails back and forth, you can send potential clients straight to your website that gives them all this information, along with your contact information, a few testimonials from past clients and an “about me” section that talks about your credentials.
Facebook groups with bloggers/authors
Having a website also allows you to reach out to bloggers and online entrepreneurs on Facebook groups that require proofreaders.
Once you have established yourself with a few potential clients, information about your services has the possibility to spread rapidly by word of mouth.

1. Freelance writer – Freelance writers need to produce work that is well proofread. If you have a passion for writing, you will naturally be able to complete a well proofread write up for clients. 2. Transcriptionist – This is a typing job from home, where you listen to audios and type out what you hear. This type of job is suitable for a fast and accurate typist. So if you can type out a document and make it close to perfect – a career in transcription is worth considering. Transcriptionists can earn an average of $45,000/year.

2. Online Bookkeeping
An online bookkeeper works with clients to record all daily financial transactions. Bookkeepers record all incoming and outgoing transactions to keep track of the financial status of the business – whether they are losing money or gaining money.

Freelance bookkeepers can earn up to $60 an hour working from home.

On the other hand, there are remote bookkeeping companies that specifically hire bookkeepers all year round. Here are some websites to bookmark and apply.

Similar to what was mention in the proofreading section – starting a small website to promote your services is a professional strategy to gain a client’s trust.
How to become an online bookkeeper?
You do not need a finance degree or a relevant bachelors degree to work as an online bookkeeper. However, you might need some training to understand the basics of bookkeeping and knowledge about the system. One such training is the Bookkeeper Launch by Ben Robinson.
