Although they are a flexible job option, this type of work is usually seasonal. But having said this, you can certainly make extra money scoring essays in your spare time.

What are online test grading jobs?
As the name suggests – its a job where you score tests. These jobs can be termed differently – online test scoring jobs, online marking jobs or online grading jobs – they all mean the same thing.
Online test graders usually score assessments such as test papers and essays. This can be from high school or college students, and sometimes even professionals.
What type of material will you be marking?
You may need to proofread essays and some test scoring jobs will also need you to mark multiple choice answers. While the latter can be scored automatically through computer software, in some cases they may be required to be tested manually by human assessment.
This is a flexible job that allows you to choose the type and the amount of work you want to take on.
This is a paperless job as everything is handled remotely on your computer.
Online test scorer salary
Online test graders usually get paid between $12 – $15 an hour. If you are grading documents for professionals the rate of pay increases. Pay varies on the type of work you are scoring.

Online Test Scoring Jobs
Pearson online test scoring jobs
Offers a wide range of jobs for educational professionals, with test scoring jobs being one of them. You can check out their job board to look out for current job vacancies.
One look at their site and you will notice the majority of their grading jobs offer paid training.
SAT Essay Scorer
As a SAT scorer, you are required to work at least 20 hours a week when scoring is available.
They provide extensive training to ensure accurate and consistent scoring. Scorers are also required to pass mandated testing.

ACT online scoring
They need test scorers to mark student essays for the ACT Writing Test.
Writing tests happen at intervals throughout the year, and you can read and score their essays anytime and using your home office with a reliable internet connection.
Online test graders are $12/hr and over. Here are some of their eligibility requirements.
- A bachelor’s degree or higher
- Current teaching experience (preferred)
- Experience teaching high school English to juniors and seniors (preferred)
- U.S. citizenship, resident alien status, or authorized to work in the U.S.
- Reside in the U.S.
Measurement Inc
Founded in 1980, Measurement Incorporated offer assessment services for state governments, other testing companies, and various organizations.
They often hire test scorers on a temporary basis – check out their career page for the latest job openings.
Literably
Literably provides oral reading assessment for K-8 students via audio.
To join Literably as a test scorer, you must be at least 18 years old and neither live in, nor score from, California, Connecticut, Massachusetts, Montana, Nebraska, or New Jersey.

ETS
ETS provides online and onsite scoring job opportunities. They accept applications from the United States, Hawaii, Alaska or Puerto Rico only.
They offer part-time positions with sessions that run Monday–Sunday from 8:30 a.m. to 9:30 p.m. ET throughout the year. The majority of the programs offer eight-hour shifts during their scoring administrations.

Write Score
To join Write Score applicants first undergo orientation, pass the qualifying levels, and then score actual student responses. As part of the orientation process, applicants will analyze student papers to learn the scoring system, score practice papers, and discuss the results with lead instructors.
All applicants are also required to pass a qualifying test to become a scorer.
They have positions available throughout the school year and test scorers are required to have a 2-year college degree.
